[ Think Good, Feel Good! ]
Take a look at your life situation right now. Is everything just the way you want it?
Are there things that you wish you would’ve done different? Are you okay
with where you’re at in life? Are you truly happy? Sooner or later,
we have to come to realize that it is not our past, current,
or future situation that determines how we feel. It
is simply the things we think about in our
mind. Our thoughts are “feelings”.
What Really is “Thinking”?
When you see someone sitting and staring out into nothingness, you are probably
going to wonder, “What are they thinking about”? The truth is that everyone
thinks all the time. It just happens that the person is concentrating
on their thoughts at that moment. Thoughts constantly fill
our minds. It can be about your past, current, or
future experiences and events. Thinking
is what makes us a unique species.
Thought and Emotion
Our thinking is directly tied to our emotions. Picture yourself winning the lottery
at this moment like it really happened. That thought sparks some type of
emotion inside of you. Whether we realize it or not, this procedure
happens every single time. Every time we feel an emotion, it
is because of the things we think about. If you think
about stuff that makes you happy, you will
experience the emotion of happiness.
Thinking vs. Reality
Many people blame their feelings or mood on what is going on in their lives. Let’s
say for example that we invest in stocks and we just lost almost $10,000.
The situation is not what makes us feel bad even though it’s reality.
First, you observe the situation. After that, your mind thinks
about what it sees. Then the bad feeling is created. It
happens in a split second but it’s the thoughts
that cause the feeling, not the situation.
It’s hard to believe huh? Well, let’s say the same situation happened except this
time we weren’t aware of it happening. We were away on a trip having a
great time with friends and family. So even though the same thing
occurred in reality, why weren’t we confronted with the bad
feeling? Well, we didn’t know about it which means the
thought never crossed our mind. Only when
we think about it, we feel the emotion.
Think and Be Happy
To think our way to happiness, we all need to live consciously. We need to realize
that thoughts are crossing our mind at all times. Even if we’re not thinking
about a particular topic, our mind is thinking about what it’s seeing
at that moment. This is similar to when you’re watching T.V.
Start putting positive thoughts in your mind. Think of
the better, not the worse. Smile and laugh. This
helps bring good thoughts in your mind.
We need to be aware of the thoughts that are in our mind. Yes, taking a $10,000
loss would be horrific but what’s done is done. The longer you think about
and dwell on the matter, the deeper and more painful the feeling will
become. Instead get over it. Think about something that will
make you happy. Life will move forward so don’t get left
behind. It’s not as simple as reading this but just
think to yourself that IT CAN BE DONE.

Great post! I really believe it’s possible to think yourself to happiness (it’s worked for me!) and you’ve summed up that idea so well in this post. Thanks for sharing your insights!

I believe this…I have for a long time. when I was in HS I worked at a store in the mall…and on bad days, I would put on a big smiley face pin…and pretend to be happy. Eventually I would just feel happy and the bad stuff would go away…
This is something I really wish more people would embrace…I see it so often when the bad thoughts come, and they spirle into more and more bad things…IF they would just turn it around, and see that things will spiral into the opposite direction…
It is a goal of mine..thank you for reminding me!

Dawn,
Thank you for reading. It seems sometimes our thoughts create a chain reaction. One negative thoughts leads to another and like you said, it spirals into more and more bad thoughts. It’s nice to see that you can overcome this and I’m glad my article was useful.
