Finally Know What You Want
How many of you have decided that you know something that you want? You know that you just have to have it. You think it will bring you happiness, joy, peace, or love.
You’ve got it fixed in your mind that if you can get this one thing, you will be happier. You will feel fulfilled. You will be more complete.

You make plans and set a goal. You work for it, using one of the most valuable resources that you have, your time. You sweat over it, you think about it all the time.

And finally, after much hard work (and maybe a few more gray hairs) you get it.

You get that thing that you wanted. Whether it was a new set of golf clubs, or a successful business.

You finally are able to reach out and have it, and after getting what you wanted…

You’re left feeing empty. You are no happier, no more joyful, and not fulfilled in the least.

Or maybe you come from the other end of the spectrum, you have a huge list of things that you want. A list of things that you believe will make you happy. Everyday your list grows and grows, a new computer, a new car, a new house. You sit down to work on getting what you want, and your attention gets pulled in another direction by something else that you want.

You spin your wheels tirelessly trying to attain all of the things on the list that you’ve made up in your mind that you have to have to feel complete.

Months pass, and you haven’t achieved any of those goals. You aren’t able to stick it out, you can’t seem to follow through.

And enters that feeling of emptiness. That dreadful feeling of being unfulfilled.

What did you do wrong? Why aren’t you happy for getting what you want? Why weren’t you able to stick it out and attain any of your goals?

Well, I’m willing to bet that the things that you are constantly striving for, those things that you feel that you absolutely need, aren’t what you truly desire at all.

From the time we are born, until the very breath that you are breathing right now, you’ve been told over and over what brings happiness and success. You’ve been told what’s attainable, what is a smart thing to shoot for.

Years and years of social conditioning have influenced your decisions to the point where you no longer go after what you truly desire. You no longer know what you really want.

A better job, a new car, a better relationship, they all sound nice, but if they aren’t what you truly desire, they will bring you no closer to living a congruent and fulfilled life.

Not one step closer.

Now, For Some Simple Observations…

I want you to take a look at the people in your life. The happy ones, the sad ones, the angry ones, the depressed ones.

Now, take a look at the things that they have.

Some may have a lot, some have very little. But what I want you to see here is the fact that people who seem to have it all, don’t really have anything. And those who seemingly have nothing, are the happiest people that you know.

I know of an elderly man that works for a church that I used to go to. He is paid very little, works long hours, and has little to show for it.

And yet, every time I see him, he is smiling! He’s happy to be alive and working those long hours. It fulfills him, and I know that he wouldn’t trade it for anything. He wants nothing, because he has what he desires.

So how does this happen?

The reason is this:

The happy fulfilled people are living lives that are filled with the things that they truly desire. Left and right they see the things that they want to see. They see that they are living the life that they want to live.

The other group of people, well, they don’t have the things that they truly desire, and that’s mostly because they don’t even know what they actually want.

They keep getting thing after thing, promotion after promotion, and yet they still seem to not be satisfied.

So what does all this mean to you?

If you are feeling unsatisfied with your life, you need to take a step back and figure out what it is that you actually want out of life. What kind of life you want to experience.

Until you figure that out, you will constantly be filled with negative emotions that slowly corrode your life.

So now that you are feeling good and lost, I guess this is where I come in with advice that saves the day, right? ;)

How to Finally Know What You Want

I want you to ask yourself a question:

If you knew, without fail, that anything that you tried you would be wildly successful at, what would you be doing?

When I first came across this question, it struck a huge chord with me. My desires instantly became clearer than ever. If I knew that I would be successful in any endeavor, I would be doing the things that I actually wanted to do, instead of the thing that I thought I could do.

Upon reading that question, I’m sure some ideas popped into your head about what that would be. WRITE THEM DOWN.

Continue writing until you have nothing left to write.

Here’s a personal example:

When I say this question in my head, my mind immediately begins filling in the blanks.

  • I would own a successful online business that literally changed people’s lives.
  • I would run marathons.
  • I would compose music.
  • I would be writing books.
  • I would be creating amazing resources for online entrepreneurs.

These are some of the first things that come to my mind when I think about this question. Yours will undoubtedly be different than mine, and for good reason.

Your answers to that question are what you truly desire. Again, write them down and expand on them, fill in the blanks.

What kind of online business would I be involved in? What would it look like? What would I be doing in my daily work?

Keep filling in the blanks until you have answered that question completely.

As you write, you will feel a clarity and focus that you may have never felt before. You may find yourself energized after months or years of being in a lethargic state.

You may find yourself wanting to take action, and you may finally feel some of the weight that rests on your shoulders relieve itself. Your mind will be clear.

Why did all of these things happen when you answered this question?

It’s because you are finally being honest with yourself about what you truly desire. You have removed any restrictions on your mind and created an image of a life that makes you smile just to think about.

You haven’t edited your goals to make them “feasible” or “more attainable.”

They are there right in front of you in their purest form.

And with that, that’s how you can finally know what you truly want. And if you have a smart cell in your body, you will go after them hard until they become a reality. The process will be easier, it will flow, because you know that day by day, you are taking steps to fulfill your deepest desires.

The only person that can tell you whether or not you can have something is you. Free your mind, find your desires, and make them real.

You deserve peace, love, and happiness. But only you can make it happen. So get out there and get to it!
