Sometimes to expand our thinking, we must approach matters from another perspective.
Let’s switch things around today. Instead of reading about what qualities we should incorporate into our lives, let’s take a look at what we should never be like.
Never be perfect
No one is perfect. No one ever will be. And no one should want to be either!
Not being perfect helps you improve yourself. You get better and better! Why just be good, when you can be better?
Remember, there’s always room for improvements in your life and not considering yourself “perfect” is what makes you grow. Without growth, life gets dull fast!
Never be comfortable
When computers were becoming very popular, many businesses started using them. One particular business, which had been around for 100 years, decided computers weren’t necessary. They were comfortable with their current business model and didn’t want to change. Do you think that business is still around today? The answer is no!
The lesson here is that if you’re too comfortable, there’s a big chance you won’t be ready to adapt to changes that occur.
Take the economy for instance. It went from “blooming” to “gloomy” overnight. So many businesses failed because they weren’t expecting this. Some people’s retirement accounts are even lower than when they started. Homes are foreclosed upon left and right….it’s terrible! Things changed, and they were too comfortable to adapt.
A great read that goes along with this topic is Secret of Succes: YOU.
Never be scared
Don’t let fear hold yourself back. Instead, let your faith take you to new heights.
Being scared means you’re uncertain. We must overcome this fear to realize that we are truly in control of our life. We decide our actions, emotions, and our destiny.
No matter how bad things get, always know you, and only you, have the power to make it better. Believe in yourself and you will go far.
Never be satisfied
Now don’t get me wrong, satisfaction is a good thing. However, satisfaction turns from good to bad it starts setting a limit to what we’re capable of. Always push yourself to have more. More happiness, more success, more freedom or whatever else you may want.
Let’s say you’re working in a sales position and you’re number one in the company. If you are satisfied and stop pushing yourself, someone else who’s definition of satisfaction is higher will pass you up one day.
Keep raising the bar for yourself!
Never be the same
Be unique. The world needs a new perspective, new ideas, and a new way of thinking.
It’s boring seeing the same thing over and over again. Being different is what makes YOU interesting. You think different, you look different, and you act different. Keep it that way.
Looking up to people and wanting to be like them is great, but do it in a way where it’s “your own”.

Hey Faizal,
I especially like, “Never be comfortable.” Although you should acknowledge your successes, being comfortable usually means you’re not growing and just being stagnant.

Being too comfortable makes you lose your edge. No one wants that.

I like it all…Again, perfect reminder for just the right time. I put myself back into counseling so that I can learn what it is that I keep getting into same types of relationships…
Your list reminds me that never be perfect is the flip side to never thinking your right, or always taking the blame…and that’s been my story. No more, I’m not taking all the credit when things go one way or another.
Koodos to another good post!!

Hey Dawn, good to hear from you.
Always taking the blame can lead to people taking advantage of you. That’s never a good thing.

Faizal, an interesting take in this post, and a special kind of reminder, since your five “nevers” are exactly the “evers” that always trip us up. I especially like point five, “be unique.” Rediscovering our own voice in the world, our own frequency that broadcasts who and what we are. Thank you for embracing difference and being unafraid to celebrate it. Greetings again from Japan – Catrien Ross.

Hey Faizal!
The title of this post caught my attention! I agree with the fact there are things that we should not be. Having these categories that you mention can actually help people into what they “do want to be.” When I first started on my journey of personal development 4 years ago, I wrote down a list of things I didn’t want in my life. I am glad to see that most of the things on your list resonate well with my list 4 years back. I never looked back since! Good Article.

Baker, keeping a list like that is great. 4 years is a long time so it must feel really good to look back at all the progress huh?

I’m so glad that I read it. I could relate it with my own life. For many years I’ve been looking perfection only to find recently that it isn’t an option. It’s like chasing a horizon, you think you can chase it but in reality you never will. Loved the way you wrote it! And thanks a lot for enlightening us.

Hi Faizal,
How are you? You’re missed!
I found your take on never being perfect was wonderful. The need for perfection can stunt growth. Getting out there and taking action while striving for excellence leaves room for learning and improving. Not being comfortable, satisfied, or the same keeps us on our toes as long as we don’t let fear hinder us. Great post!

Very simple tips to put into practice. One of the two main ones i use are to never be perfect and to never be scared. Doing those two daily have helped me become more than i can imagine.
